LAWS OF THE LAND

GENERAL RULES

1. The group is rated Young Adult (YA).

Given that the canon Temeraire series deals with with certain mature themes, these are expected to be seen in the group and in roleplay. Namely: graphic dragon/egg violence, human violence and warfare, character death, murder, slavery, flogging/capital punishment, drinking/alcohol, etc.

Warning for ratings as follows:

Sex/Nudity - Mild (nothing above PG13)
Violence/Gore - Potentially Severe
Profanity - Moderate/Mild
Alcohol/Drugs - Moderate
Intense Scenes - Potentially Severe (during battles)
Absolutely no R18+ material in the server or group.

Additional sensitive topics: Due to the historical setting for this RP, characters may encounter sensitive topics such as sexism, homophobia, racism/slavery, and violence towards indigenous peoples. While characters in-roleplay are allowed to explore these views (as we want to accurately reflect the historical time period), these discriminations are ABSOLUTELY untolerated if displayed out-of-character.

2. Be Respectful and Kind.

Be patient, calm, and forgiving with other group members. Remember that everybody has had different experiences, viewpoints, etc and respect that; try to make others feel comfortable. If you have a problem with another member, let a moderator or admin know and we will try to mediate the situation. Discrimination and hate-speech based on religion, gender orientation, sexual orientation, race, political beliefs, etc. will not tolerated.

3. No drama/negativity.

OOC drama among members or in the group is not tolerated. We will do our best to help sort out the drama, and mediate, drama, rudeness or negativity towards the group will result in a warning. We want the OOC atmosphere in the server to be fun and friendly, and such actions bring down the mood for everyone in the group. If you see drama or are worried you may be pulled into it, contact a mod. Similarly if you have problem with another player, contact a mod/admin or PM the person directly, and keep it private. Staff may take measures to swiftly remove members causing trouble as needed, and backtalk to staff will not be tolerated.

4. Art/Writing submitted to the group must be your own.

You must draw your own application art and group-related art, or for your application only, you may use a base/commission that has been approved for you to use by the artist. Bases should not be used for group art submissions for bonuses. Art theft/traced art will not be tolerated here.

5. You must have Discord to join the group!
The entire group is run on Discord and you must have a Discord account to participate in the group.
We prefer for you to have a DeviantArt as well, but that is not necessary to join!

6. People are not their characters.

Stay mature and character interactions and player interactions separate - don't let character fights spill over into OOC. This is grounds for drama.

7. No venting/rants.
We want to keep the server a positive and upbeat place. If you need to rant, please ask to speak to others in PMs (only message those who have volunteered to help). Do not rant or vent in the main server.

8. No spam.
Try to keep discussions to the correct channels and don't deliberately spam the server, post gibberish, random screaming, or the same thing over and over again, etc. Advertisements should only be posted once. Also, do not beg or wheedle people for favors or artwork.

9. One strike policy.

If a user break any rules or cause general disruption in the server, they will be given one warning, which serves as a strike. If the warning is not heeded or the user goes on to take more actions that violate the rules and peace of the server, they will be banned.

ROLEPLAY RULES

1. Do not Powerplay or Godmod.
NEVER control another person's character, you may suggest actions that other characters may take in OOC, but it is up to the player in the end what they want to do with their character.
Do not guilt people or morally police them into taking certain actions with their character.

Your character should not be able to do anything and everything - everyone has weaknesses.

2. Try to be (relatively) historically accurate.

Remember that the group is set in the 1770s, Colonial America, and keep fairly accurate to the time as well as to the events of the American Revolution. Do not include any technology (aside from dragon related things) that has not been invented before this era, and keep in mind the typical world views at that point (ex: Christianity still dominates Western religious views, modern medicine has not been invented yet, women officers must be kept secret as they would face public outcry, etc).
Any large, notable battles (Battle of Saratoga, Battle of Quebec, etc) should follow the events of the American Revolution. The results of small skirmishes can be determined by the participating players.

3. Permission before Significant Injury.

You must ask for and receive express permission before significantly injuring another person's character (anything above superficial scratches or bruises). If you just make your character jump another person's character and start attacking without OOC permission, the other person has a right to ignore the post, and mods may intervene appropriately. This includes boarding another person's dragon.
(Though as per Rule #4, be reasonable. If your dragon is in a major battle, they will be injured at some point).

4. RP Characters to their weight strengths - be realistic. No Mary Sues/Gary Stus.

Remember to roleplay characters realistically. Lightweights are generally significantly more agile and faster than higher weight classes, but are usually not able to do much damage to bigger dragons. Dragons with a breath weapon are notably quite dangerous. Most dragons cannot see well at night, etc. Keep in mind your character's strengths and weaknesses, and make sure they aren't good at everything.

5. Plan out big fights ahead of time - call a mod on disagreement.

If you wish to fight another player (PvP) it is best to discuss what the outcome will be ahead of time out of character. If two players disagree on who would "win" in a skirmish, a mod may be called in by anyone involved to settle the debate, or you can roll a dice using the in-server DiceParser. Mod decision is final if called in.

6. RP Etiquette

Do not constantly ask to RP, everyone has real life things they need to attend to. Once per every couple days is fine, any more than that can be frustrating.
Furthermore, while public RP channels are open to everyone, please use etiquette when joining a channel that already has an RP going on (an RP that's been posted in during the last day). Try not to insert your character randomly if they don't have a reason for being there, and preferably ask those already RPing there if you can join.

7. Character death is the only way to "free" up a character slot.

The only way to free up a character slot is via character death. Be warned, when a character dies, they die forever. You may make changes to your character after creation as long as dragon's breed stays the same, and the rest of the character creation rules are followed. Major changes should only be done rarely, though.

7. Roleplay Skill.

We do expect a little skill and writing ability when RPing on the server. We request that you try to use grammatically correct English. RPing should be in full sentences and a 3rd person perspective. Finally, try to write at least 2 sentences per post, and make sure there is something in your post that the other person can respond to (it helps the RP along!)

Character Creation rules are listed in the "Character Creation" page!

"Let a crown be placed thereon, by which the world may know, that so far as we approve of monarchy, that in America the law is King. For as in absolute governments the King is law, so in free countries the law ought to be King; and there ought to be no other.."
